Hung by the Chimney with Care

My sewing project this week was our Christmas stockings. I used scrap fabric and really enjoyed the process of sewing the various pieces together into an imperfectly shaped stocking. I had planned to do a red and a green but I found so many snowy, wintery blues that I ended up with these.

I hand stitched lines across the stockings to give them some texture and a more carefully finished look. The hand quilting took a while, but it is something I enjoy doing and I love the way it looks and feels. They will only be used once a  year and don't need to have a perfect and practical shape. This gave me the freedom to just sew and I am very happy with the results.

We have two non-working fireplaces in our apartment so there are plenty of places to hang them. We'll see how they work this year, but I hope we will enjoy them for years to come.
