This Week

DSC_0160

I didn't spend as much time in the studio this week as I would normally. I needed a few days of rest and also spent one day planting onions at the farm. Instead of my usual studio update, here are a few things I have enjoyed recently.

I think I've read this one before, but I like hearing a pretty down to earth farmer remind us that good food isn't elitist.

I have a pineapple top that is starting to grow roots. But I haven't started planting any seeds yet. I need to get going so I can grow a bunch of pea shoots in my kitchen. They are so tasty.

I'm taking a fun photography class right now.

I've been enjoying a book that is densely and beautifully full of simple ideas for eating well. I am looking forward to getting a copy of this book, too. Not just for the pop tarts.

Hopefully you've seen/heard this before, but here's some great music from Minnesota. Looking forward to checking out their new album.

Many trees are blooming, tulips are up, and I've smelled a few lilacs. Spring is here so early and I am enjoying a cozy day inside while April showers outside. Happy Spring! Happy Weekend!

This Week

After four days away, I've been catching up on things in the studio. So here are some photos our trip the the north woods and boundary waters of Minnesota.

We skied on lakes in bright sun, dusk, clouds and snow. We saw eagles on an island and wolves at a preserve. We lounged and read by the wood stove and tried out the sauna.

If you ever have a chance to try dog sledding, you should. It was an amazing experience to learn about and travel with such hard working, happy dogs. Despite my worry about all the things that could go wrong and the fear that I was no match for six dogs that just wanted to run, driving the sled was amazingly fun.

I hope you're finding wondrous adventures, too!

Not so much the studio, other parts of the house.

Last week it was time for another overhaul of our living space. I love eliminating clutter and finding ways to use our space differently so that it feels new and refreshed. I've realized that I need to do this three or four times a year. I did some repurposing of things, as well as spaces, and turned an old bulletin board into a chalkboard (with several coats of chalkboard paint).

I think I mentioned before that I love pinterest because it seems so full of hope and inspiration. So many people have dream home or dream apartment boards. I love that everyone dreams about the perfect, amazing space they want to create and I also love the challenge of making due with what we have in our apartment and making it work for us. It will never have the look of a gorgeous home decor photo, but these little changes can make such a big difference especially when it is dismal and gray outside.

I watched this short film from this must be the place and it reminded me of how much I hope for that someday place that we will be able to dig into and really make our own.

Happy Friday!
